May Day Detroit

Celebrating the Real Labor Day in the Motor City

About Us

Like most major US cities, Detroit’s observance of May Day, or International Workers’ Day, has had highs and lows over the few past decades, with many different groups at any given time organizing it. Last year, however, the May Day Detroit Committee was formed, a coalition of progressive organizations which share the goal of a May Day celebration which welcomes all working class people and advocates for working class interests. If you or your organization share this goal, please go to the get involved section. This year, we will be meeting at Roosevelt Park in Detroit (2231 Michigan Avenue, Detroit, MI 48216).

We organize a family-friendly event which involves a rally with speakers from organized labor and other progressive organizations, music, poetry, food, and tables with information from endorsing organizations. After the rally, we hold a short march with signs, banners, floats, chants, and songs.
