[As a Resolution by Local 12 delegates to be raised at the 39th UAW Constitutional Convention in June 2026]

Whereas the UAW was supported by 75% of the American Public during the 2023 Stand Up Strike and the UAW needs to keep that support for future contract fights….and….

Whereas millions of Americans have protested against the Trump Administration in three national “No Kings” Demonstrations….and….

Whereas the AFL-CIO in Minnesota called a successful one-day General Strike on January 23rd, 2026 over the murders of US citizens, Renee Good and Alex Pretti by Trump’s ICE
and CPB agents…and …

Whereas Article 50, Section 8, of the UAW Constitution outlines the procedure for calling or joining a General Strike in times of great emergency that threatens the economic and social welfare of our members …and …

Whereas President Trump’s Administration has cancelled all contracts with the unions of Federal workers and no longer recognizes their unions despite court orders defending these unions as the legal representatives of Federal workers…and…

Whereas President Trump has threatened to cancel or distort the Mid-Term Elections this November by impounding ballots or by denying married women their right to vote due to having a last name different from their ‘birth certificate name’ which is spelled out in the so-called SAVE Act….therefore…

BE IT RESOLVED THAT….
UAW Local 12 asks the 2026 UAW Constitutional Convention to empower the International Executive Board to conduct a vote-by-mail Authorization Referendum that will authorize the UAW IEB to call or join a valid General Strike. Such a General Strike will protest any or all Violations of the US Constitution, breaking of US Laws and Violations of Court Orders by the Federal Government with respect to US elections or other issues the IEB recognizes.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED THAT…
This proposed Referendum’s results, either for or against a General Strike authorization for the IEB shall remain in effect until the 40th UAW Constitutional Convention in 2030. This empowers the IEB to monitor the US elections in both 2026 and 2028 for criminal irregularities in the vote results.

LET IT BE KNOWN THAT…
This proposal does not change Article 50, Section 8 by simply putting a membership referendum BEFORE any IEB vote for a General Strike instead of AFTER an IEB vote.  In any case the IEB cannot declare a General Strike without the authorization of a membership Referendum, either before or after the IEB votes.

LET IT FURTHER BE KNOWN THAT…
The UAW stands shoulder to shoulder with the American People, in gratitude for their past support, in solidarity with their struggle to defend American democracy and in determination to defend the Labor Unions of all American Federal Workers.

Let this UAW General Strike Referendum stand as an example to be followed by all Unions in the American Labor Movement to show the power of organized labor in shaping American History.
